Believe and Testify
Believe. We hear it all the time at Christmas. Children are encouraged to believe in Santa Claus. TV specials urge us to believe in magic and miracles. For followers of Christ, Christmas is the celebration of our belief and conviction that God sent His Son into the world to save us from sin. But there’s another critical piece to this celebration. We are not just called to believe, we are called to testify.
I John 4 says, “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him… And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.“
A man in my Bible study once came to me and said, “Andrew, I want to share my faith, but I can’t.” When I asked him why, he said that he’d be a hypocrite if he tried because he’s still growing in his faith and didn’t have all the answers. “Well,” I replied. “By those standards, I’m a pretty big hypocrite myself.”
We are all still growing, and none of us has all the answers. But God doesn’t ask us to meet a long list of prerequisites before we tell others about Him. Each of us who has experienced the joy of a relationship with Christ is called to share that joy with those around us. And Christmas is a wonderful opportunity to show a hurting world His Love. Share your testimony with the people in your life who don’t know Christ. Pray and keep praying for them. Live out His message by serving those in need in your community. Encourage your fellow believers with the knowledge that by sending His Son, God has given us everything we need to draw others to Him.
