Christmas Wonder
It’s Christmastime, time when wonder fills our hearts and peace settles in our souls. Right? Or perhaps you are feeling too busy for childlike wonder. Or maybe you’re just bored with it all.
Think about the shepherds to whom the angels appeared. How long had it been since those guys had wondered at anything? They were stuck in a job that was going nowhere, in a sleepy little town, with no relief on the horizon. Think about the monotony. Their greatest dream was likely the desire to not stink like sheep!
But then what happens? An angel shows up. The angel proclaims the good news that the Savior is to be born. In Luke chapter 2, the shepherds say to each other, “‘Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened…’ They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger.” Notice that they HURRIED to Bethlehem. How often do you see a shepherd who’s in a hurry? Think of the wonder that had overtaken them, propelling them forward!
The same stirrings of awesome, innocent marvel can be yours this Christmas. The Good News that came 2,000 years ago is just as good today. Jesus Christ is alive this very moment! Won’t you share the good news of Christmas today?
